Image Gen is an open-source command-line tool and Claude Code plugin for generating images through several external providers. Rather than maintaining a different command for every service, a developer can use one interface and configure the provider credentials needed for the models they want. The project lists OpenAI, BFL, Stability AI, Ideogram, Google, FAL, Leonardo, Recraft, Replicate and ClipDrop among its supported integrations.
The workflow includes provider selection and fallback behavior, allowing another configured service to be tried when a request fails. It is written in TypeScript and can be installed as a plugin or used from a cloned repository. At least one provider API key is required, and those providers' charges and conditions remain separate from the MIT-licensed tool. Model support, output quality and availability depend on the selected service, so a unified interface does not make every provider interchangeable or guarantee a successful generation. Image Gen is most useful for developers who already work in a terminal or coding assistant and want a repeatable image-generation step without separately wiring every provider into their own scripts.
