Luksmith is a macOS utility for accessing supported Linux ext2, ext3 and ext4 drives in Finder. It handles plain ext filesystems and ext filesystems inside supported LUKS1 or LUKS2 encrypted containers. The published requirement is Apple Silicon with macOS 26 or later, not Intel Macs or older macOS releases. It uses Apple's FSKit in user space rather than requiring a kernel extension, macFUSE or reduced system security.
The supported-format table is important. It lists PBKDF2 and Argon2 key derivation and AES-XTS-plain64 with supported sector sizes, while excluding combinations such as LVM, dm-integrity, other filesystems and token or keyfile unlocking. It opens existing volumes rather than creating, formatting or resizing them. Read-only access is offered free; the site lists a one-time $9.99 purchase for writing. Direct-purchase and App Store licensing are described separately, so an installation route should not be confused with the writing entitlement.
Writing changes a real filesystem, and the site describes a specific limit to its journal protection. Unplugging or losing power during an active write can leave damage that the journal cannot undo and may require repair from Linux. Users should eject before disconnecting and keep backups rather than treating journalled writes as a blanket safety guarantee. The app offers optional passphrase storage through Apple Keychain and says it makes no network calls. Its open-source dependency list identifies components used by the app; those projects are not the product's own social accounts or an endorsement of it.
