Heynote is a desktop scratchpad built around a persistent text buffer divided into blocks. A block can hold a draft message, meeting notes, an API response or a task list, and each block can use its own language mode. Syntax highlighting and formatting make it useful for switching between ordinary notes and structured text such as JSON or Markdown.
Math blocks add calculations, variables, functions and unit conversions. Users can also create multiple note buffers, organize them into directories and move blocks between them, with each buffer corresponding to a file on disk. Inline images can be pasted or dragged into the editor, resized and annotated with a lightweight drawing tool. Downloads are available for macOS, Windows and Linux, and the site links to the project source code.
