FourCities is a browser railway-management game set between 1850 and 2050. Four companies each have a home city and a territory on a generated map. Players lay track, buy locomotives and connect resources to factories, then use those supply chains to keep their city growing. The game combines transport planning with industrial decisions: coal and iron must cross territory boundaries to reach steel production, while later growth adds demand for food, planks, fuel and goods.
Territory matters to the cost of expansion. The rules describe higher construction costs abroad, royalties when resources leave a rival territory, and more expensive bridges and tunnels. Networks remain separate, although tracks can cross at right angles. Engines arrive across successive eras with different speeds and upkeep, while mines can run dry and new resource sites can appear. The final score combines company net worth with a population value, so building a large city and building a rich railway are connected goals rather than identical ones.
Players can run solo against configurable bots or host an online room for up to four people, with bots filling empty seats. Solo play offers pause and speed controls; online play runs at normal speed with host-controlled pausing. The site lists a full match at around two and a half hours, plus shorter forty-minute and fifteen-minute modes. It advertises free play without ads, an account or an installation, and a guided tutorial from the start screen. Optional support is separate from the game. These are the published rules and modes, not a claim that every match takes exactly the advertised duration.
